The Police in Rivers State says it has arrested two suspects linked to the killing of two merchants in Oyigbo Native Authorities Space of the State.
Two completely different teams of traders- yam zone and scavengers of scraps on Saturday September 5, 2020, clashed after a provocative argument.
Two individuals have been killed within the fracas that adopted the argument, leaving the place in chaos until the arrival of the police and different safety companies.
Spokesman of the Police within the State, SP Nnamdi Omoni in an announcement mentioned those that died have been buried in keeping with their spiritual injunctions.
Omoni, who added that safety has been strengthened within the Oyigbo, denied studies of reprisal assaults by the Army within the State.
“Two individuals amongst those who carried out the dastardly assault that led to the dying of two individuals from the Hausa extraction have been arrested and cooling their heels on the State CID Port Harcourt, whereas the manhunt for others has been intensified.
“Within the wake of the assault, the CP summoned the events and brokered a truce the place he warned them to return and hold the peace.
“In the meantime, the our bodies of the deceased Hausa males have been instantly evacuated and buried in accordance with Islamic injunction.
“Space has been fortified and safety beefed up, as our males have been deployed in strategic locations and can stay there to information towards reprisal assault or additional breakdown of legislation and order.
“Subsequently, the studies making the rounds right this moment on social media about an imminent assault this evening by Fulanis/Nigerian Troopers and Police is inconceivable and to that extent needs to be disregarded and ignored as similar is frivolous, unverifiable and mischievous, solely meant to boost pointless alarm and trigger panic within the State,” the assertion learn.
