Policeman arrested for armed robbery in Port-Harcourt

A police officer has escaped a mob motion after being caught as a part of a 2-man armed theft gang in Port Harcourt.

One of many suspected armed robbers, who was amongst two suspects arrested by safety guards and residents of Elekahia Housing Property, was seen with an Id card of the Nigeria Police.

An eyewitness mentioned the suspects have been arrested throughout a theft operation within the space.

They have been nabbed by safety guards who later referred to as in Cops from the Elekahia Divisional Police Station in Port Harcourt.

“At about 10:30 pm on Saturday a motorbike with two males on it robbed two girls of their valuables at gun level and tried to rob one other man who raised an alarm that led to their apprehension,” the supply mentioned.

When contacted, the Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident and revealed the id of the Police Officer, as Sergeant Ibrahim Odege.

Spokesman of the Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni in a press release mentioned Sergeant Ibrahim Odege is connected to the Operations Division of the Rivers Police Command, including that the Sergeant was arrested alongside together with his alleged confederate, Sampson Inomoghe.

Omoni acknowledged that, “Operatives of the Elekahia Division on 16/1/2021 at about 2200Hrs responded to a Misery name on the Elekahia Housing Property, the place two armed robbers who have been robbing folks and dispossessing them of their valuables have been arrested.

“The well timed arrival of the Police led to the arrest of the 2 armed robbers who have been later recognized as Sergeant Ibrahim Odege connected to the Operations Division of the Rivers Police Command and one Sampson Inomoghe ‘m’ 32yrs from Nembe in Bayelsa State however resides at Rumuokwrushi in Obio/Akpor LGA.

“The duo have been arrested on the scene of crime with the next Reveals: Three totally different Handsets belonging to their Victims and one Regionally made Bareta Pistol. One of many Victims, Mrs Doris Elechi recognized them as people who robbed her of her Tecno Handset, which is among the Reveals recovered.

“On the Station, the suspects confessed to have carried out the theft assaults amongst different revelations.
