The federal authorities has commenced a course of to scale back the variety of worldwide organisations Nigeria belongs.
Overseas Affairs Minister, Godfrey Onyeama, gave the trace on Tuesday in Abuja.
The senior offical spoke whereas defending the ministry’s 2021 funds on the Home of Representatives.
Onyeama disclosed that the ministry faces the problem of assembly its contribution to these organisations.
“We’re owing so much, and within the Federal Govt Council (FEC), there’s a course of to rationalise and minimize down on the worldwide organisations we belong to. It’s because we’re simply owing monies left and proper and it isn’t even good for the picture of the nation,” he stated.
Decrying the poor funding of the ministry, he stated the motion of officers, ambassadors and their households was a significant drawback.
He stated presently that N1.6billion is required for the motion of ambassadors, whereas officers would require N3.7billion.
Onyeama informed the lawmakers that the insufficient overhead budgetary provisions to Nigerian missions have to be addressed.
