Madagascar re-imposes lockdown amid surge in virus instances

Madagascar has positioned its capital Antananarivo beneath a contemporary lockdown following a brand new surge in coronavirus infections, two months after the restrictions had been eased, the presidency introduced Sunday.

“The Analamanga area [under which the capital is situated] is returning to full lockdown,” the presidency stated in an announcement.

No visitors will likely be allowed in or out of the area beginning Monday till July 20. A strict curfew will likely be imposed on road motion by individuals.

“Just one individual per family is allowed to exit into the road between 6:00 am (0400 GMT) and 12:00 pm (1000 GMT),” stated the assertion.

The measures have been taken “due to the unfold of the epidemic and the rise of COVID-19 instances,” it added.
