A Catholic priest in Enugu Rev. Fr. Joachim Cabanyes has died from coronavirus (COVID-19) issues, the diocese introduced on Saturday.
Fr. Cabanyes died on the College of Nigeria Instructing Hospital (UNTH) isolation centre, in response to a press release by Rev. Fr. Nkemjika Igweshi, Secretary to the Bishop of Enugu Diocese Most Rev. Callistus Onaga.
Igweshi stated that Fr. Cabanyes was a Spanish priest of the Opus Dei Prelature who labored within the diocese and had served the Nigerian church for about 28 years.
“He was such a pleasant, easy-going, cordial, beneficiant, prayerful, and devoted pastor.
“He hailed from Spain, however beloved our individuals a lot and all the time attended our diocesan features.
“His physique has simply been laid to relaxation, following the NCDC pointers.
“Please as we pray for his peaceable repose, tell us that COVID-19 is actual and we are going to do effectively to look at all the required well being precautions and security measures,’’ he stated.
Igweshi, who can be the Chaplain of St. Lucy Chaplaincy, Emene, close to Enugu, prayed for the repose of Fr. Cabanyes’ soul.
