Benue govt raises alarm over influx of armed herdsmen with AK-47, cattle

The Benue State Authorities has raised an alarm over renewed inflow of armed herdsmen with giant herds of cattle into elements of the state.

Engineer Benson Abounu, State Deputy Governor stated 376 cows and 6 herdsmen have been apprehended in Kaseyo, Guma Native Authorities Space of the state.

Talking at a press convention in Makurdi, the state capital, Abounu disclosed that the herders have been being investigated by authorities.

In accordance with the Deputy Governor, safety checks revealed the invasion of armed herdsmen with AK47 rifles and huge herds of cattle by the riverside, on Nasarawa State financial institution.

He acknowledged that in line with the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Institution Legislation of the state, the cows have been saved on the quarantine centre within the state and could be launched to the homeowners after fulfilling the mandatory circumstances.

The Deputy Governor famous that Benue as one of many federating models of Nigeria is ruled by legal guidelines, one in all which is the one prohibiting open grazing being enforced successfully with the first intention of ending conflicts between herders and farmers.

Engr. Abounu whereas urging livestock farmers to amass land within the state via a lease for his or her companies stated Benue will not be in any method considering abrogating the legislation for any motive.
